A Conversation with Diana Ross-Lecture

Back in March, I attended an event in Houston, Texas. It was held at a beautiful, large theater The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts- Sarofim Hall. This was the first time that Diana Ross has appeared in a lecture format and not as the Diva we all love on stage. She was beautifully dressed but simple. No music was sung or performed.
Moments before her introduction music and scenes recalling the 40 plus years of wonderful and memorable songs..hit after hit and scenes from her movies. It was so exciting...then she walked on to a thunderous applause. I was grinning from ear to ear. Miss Ross spoke about many issues. Life, fame, raising her 5 kids, spirituality, religion. How she has been able to get thru and live with the same demons many of us share. In other words a life that is no less but much more than extraordinary became a life we could actually be in line and one one with. After all we are all the same in many ways. We all want the same things in many ways.
Her voice, her laughter, her personality was a joy to be exposed to on this level. Personal, insightful. I was seated in the 5th row and therefore had a great view.
The theater as large as it was..well it was sold out. there was a personal question and answer period from many audience members. I am sure the fundraiser was a success.
Afterwards an intimate cocktail party took place where we were to be more one to one with Diana. When she entered the room from the rear...to everyone's surprise..she had a smile, that Diana Ross smile that is so famous around the globe. She shined as tho a spot light was around her. The crowds moved in on her so heavily. Everyone wanted to touch,be a part of that special being. She only spoke for a bit and had to leave.
Disappointment was plentiful. The Brilliant Lecture series people had lied to us to make money. Diana was not and could not stay to share more, sign books,no photographer to take pictures with each VIP guest. No it did not happen as advertised or even told in personal voice..I left disappointed but a smile in my mind and heart. She was inspirational and kind. I am sure and have no doubt she felt bad about how she was manipulated by this organization and fans were not happy...but in a way we were. Some of us flew from far. Some from the U.K,Holland,Denmark, the Carolina's etc.
But I did have my camera and took a few. Diana Ross is a legend for all time. Dear in my heart and soul, as in those of others. BABY, BABY BABY.OHHH! BABY!
